Is Your Dog Happy?

Do you ever look at your dog and wonder if they are truly happy or not? Take a look at this list to determine if they are enjoying their life to the fullest.

Body signals.

Do they have a relaxed and wiggly body? Do they wag their tail often? When they wag their tail it should be in a middle raised position. A high tail wag may indicate they are over-stimulated or stressed. When they wag their tail their body may wiggle with it, which are also signs of a happy dog.

Appetite and health.

Do they eat regularly and eagerly? Some dogs may be grazers, but they should not have any major changes in their eating habits. Sudden changes in the way thy eat can be an indication of an unhappy or unhealthy dog. Do they have any gastrointestinal issues? Unhappy dogs are more likely to have issues with vomiting or diarrhea. Do they tend to always be sick? Dogs that are unhappy tend to have a decreased immune system which may make them get sick more often.

Zoomies!

If your dog gets the zoomies they are extremely happy! Don't know what the zoomies are? They are sudden bursts of energy when your dog runs around like a crazy animal. It is also associated with a happy face and lots of tail wagging. They also may happy dance, by jumping around or side to side or dancing on their hindlimbs.

They sleep a lot.

A happy dog should sleep 14 to 16 hours per day. They should be able to sleep in a comfortable position and in area of your house where they feel safe. Most dogs like to cuddle up against their owners, although this is not always true, especially if they were trained to not go on furniture. If they seem to never be awake, this could be a sign that they feel sick. If they sleep a lot less than this it could mean they are sick or feel stressed.
